It all began with greetings from the director of the Astronomy Department UdeC, Dr. Wolfgang Gieren, who was appreciative of the presence of so many young people on a Friday afternoon and also motivated them to explore this exciting career.
Next there was a public outreach talk titled "Introduction to Astronomy" by Dr. Christian Moni-Bidin. Then it was the turn of an engineer, specialized in Radio-Astronomy, Dr. Ricardo Bustos, who surprised the audience with a lecture on "Radio-Astronomy and Cosmic Background Radiation". Following his talk, he connected “live” with a degree student - Gustavo Orellana – observing at a telescope in the north.
Finally, we conducted the workshop "Measuring the distance to the supernova 1987A", presented by Dr. Ronald Mennickent. This workshop was supported by the advanced students: Gustavo Aguayo y César Muñoz.
In the hall of the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences a photo exhibition was held, from the astronomical FETTU (From Earth to the Universe), of the Centre for Astrophysics and Related Technologies, CATA. |
