------------------------------------------------------------------------ Data from Gemini South ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Semester : 2011B Instrument(s) : GMOS-S Gemini Program ID: GS-2011B-Q-23 Data category : Science data and ancillary files PI : Neil Nagar Scientist email : cwinge@gemini.edu,pgomez@gemini.edu Package date : 2011/10/13 Release date(s) : 2011/09/23 - 2013/03/27 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ General description: ---------------------- This electronic distribution of data from Gemini-South contains raw science, calibrations and some processed data. The package also contains observing log files and a copy of the PhaseII xml file for the science programme. PIs can retrieve additional raw and processed data from the Gemini Science Archive using the "Complete Catalogue Query" search pages. http://www.cadc-ccda.hia-iha.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/cadcbin/gsa/gsaDsscAttr.pl The raw frames for calibrations that are shared among programs are not included with the PI package, although some of the relevant processed calibrations are. All of those, as well as the calibrations directly associated with a science program can be found and retrieved using the "Search Complete Catalog" and "Search for Processed Calibrations" query pages. In case the desired calibration observation is not immediately found, users are requested to follow the instructions located at http://www.gemini.edu/sciops/data-and-results/science-archive under the link "Calibration Data Retrieval" Reduction software: -------------------- Gemini Observatory distributes the software used for the data quality assessment as an external IRAF package, the Gemini IRAF package. This package also contains other tasks developed specifically for processing of data from the Gemini Telescopes. The package can be downloaded from http://www.gemini.edu/sciops/data-and-results/processing-software under the link "Releases/Downloads". Data Characteristics: -------------------- Information on data and data reduction features is now listed in the Gemini website and is intended to aid users of GeminI data: http://www.gemini.edu/sciops/data-and-results/data-characteristics including, among other topics: T-ReCS Data: instrumental artefacts, non-standard observing modes, spectroscopy, PSF structure. Detailed description: --------------------- * Raw observational data is stored in multi-extension FITS (MEF) files. The files are named after the UT date at the end of the night and has a running number, e.g. SS.fits * Phoenix data naming convention is different from the facility instruments, also using the UT date at the end of the night and a running number, e.g. 2008oct28_0001.fits for the first Phoenix dataset obtained the night of 2008/10/27-28 * Observation log file(s), __obslog.txt, which lists the raw data and other details of the observations * PhaseII xml file for the science programme. There are no PhaseII xml files for baseline calibration data. Science programmes can also be fetched from the Observing Database using the provided PhaseII passcode. The xml file is named .xml Contact information: --------------------- If you have questions regarding the data in this electronic distribution please submit these either through your Contact Scientist if you are the PI of these data or through the Gemini Helpdesk http://helpdesk.gemini.edu Please use the "Regular HelpDesk Ticket" option, and select the appropriate topic (Data Distribution - South, Gemini Science Archive). Please remember to include the programme ID in the query.
