Theory and Star Formation

The theory and star formation group at the Department of Astronomy exists since 2009. It started with the arrival of Dr. Michael Fellhauer in late 2008, the first theoretical astronomer at the department, and his first PhD student Paulina Assmann, starting her thesis in numerical simulations of the formation of dwarf spheroidal galaxies. In March 2015 the group was joined by Dr. Dominik Schleicher and in 2016 by Dr. Amelia Stutz, converting the theory group into the Theory and Star Formation group today.

Today, the group consists of 3 professors, 3 postdocs and more than 10 students. The group is mainly working in the fields of theoretical stellar dynamics of young star clusters and dwarf galaxies (sub-group Fellhauer), theoretical magneto-hydrodynamics and astro-chemistry of the first stars and black holes in the Universe (sub-group Schleicher) and observationally in resolved star formation in the proximity of our Sun (sub-group Stutz).
