COURSES TAUGHT AND TEACHING AT UDEC:

Every semester I teach at least one course of astronomy, typically for students of our undergraduate program in astronomy or for graduate students in physics or astronomy, at both master's or doctoral levels. I also teach (although not always) elective courses on a specific subject in astrophysics for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. As a professor associated to the Teacher in Natural Science Education (with a major in physics) undergraduate program, I have been responsible for the second astrophysics course in that program. Courses that I have taught at the Universidad de Concepción since July 2009 include:

  •   Astrophysics II (511421)
  •   Frontiers in Astronomy (514122)
  •   General Astrophysics (514321)
  •   Galactic and Extragalactic Astrophysics (514412/514420)
  •   Extragalactic Astrophysics (514312)
  •   Galaxy Formation and Evolution (514507)
  •   Advanced Spectroscopy (514526/4102013)
  •   Advanced Astrobiology I (514341)
  •   Advanced Astrophysics (4312004)
  •   Large Scale Structures in the Universe (4312020)
  •   Astronomical Instrumentation and Observational Techniques (514222/514408)

I have also been responsible for undergraduate research training and thesis projects for physics and astronomy students, as well as for science teacher students. Moreover, I am (have been) supervisor of Ph.D. and master's thesis students in physics and astronomy. In addition to this, I have been the creator and responsible faculty of an astrophotography course for the general public, as well as the co-creator and responsible scholar for UdeC of an international, interdidisciplinary course with the University of Cincinnati (USA) on geology, anthropology, and astronomy: "The Atacama: Connecting Earth and Sky Through a Human Perspective". Last but not least, I have given invited lectures for several junior courses in our astronomy program, as well as, occasionally, for other programs.
