TEACHING IN ACADEMIA:

In July 2009, I joined the Department of Astronomy of the University of Concepción (UdeC) in Chile where I teach to undergraduate and graduate students in Astronomy, and taught to students of the science teacher career of UdeC. My favorite subjects are extragalactic astrophysics, galaxy formation and evolution, clusters of galaxies, and galaxy spectroscopy. I have also given a course on astrobiology. Between March 2013 and December 2015 I was the director of the undergraduate program in astronomy (for reference purposes, you can see the old pages of the program) at UdeC. Also, between July 2009 and February 2013, and between January and July 2018, I performed the duties of Secreatry of Teaching Affairs of the Department of Astronomy.

In previous years, I have been invited lecturer at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of California at Riverside (UCR). At UCR, I also assisted in the supervision of students working on the reduction of multi-object spectroscopy data and the interpretation of galaxy spectra. Between 1994 and 1998, in addition to being an undergraduate physics student, I worked as a teaching assistant of several courses in physics and astronomy for undergraduate students in science and engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

As a faculty professor of UdeC, I have trained students from the astronomy, physics and science teacher programs, most of them as their undergraduate-thesis advisor. I have also trained international students who have come to UdeC as exchange students or to perform short-term internships in astronomy. As a visiting researcher at the University of Oregon, I have been involved with the training in astronomy of undergraduate students from its physics program.

Students from UdeC graduated under my supervision:
